Accepting Applicants for Proposal SubmissionCompass Government Solutions is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to provide services at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. A MLT collects samples like blood and tissue, performs tests to analyze them, and reports results to physicians for diagnosis and treatment. This opportunity is part of a proposal effort. We are currently accepting applications from experienced candidates to be considered if the contract is awarded.

Monday - Friday 

Facility Hours: 6 AM - 8 PM

MLT shall not exceed 40 hours per work week.

Job Duties:Preparing cultures of tissue samples. Prepares donor blood component products (red blood cells, platelets, plasma, cryoprecipitate) in accordance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), the Navy Blood Program (NBP), and ASBBC standard operating procedures and guidance.Establishing and monitoring programs that ensure data accuracy. Manufactures blood units while utilizing the Enterprise Blood Management Distribution systems.Microscopically examining slides of bodily fluids. Creates/prepares blood products for shipments.Cross-matching blood for transfusions. Performs all quality control and applicable preventative maintenance on donor center equipment as required by ASBBC SOPs.Performs computer assisted labeling of blood products. Enters donor test results into the Enterprise Blood Management Distribution systems. Chemically analyzing blood or urine for toxic components.Analyzing lab reports for accuracy. Reviews quality control/component manufacturing logs for accuracy.Operating and calibrating equipment. Performs, records, and reports blood inventory. Manages blood product distribution. Coordinates blood shipments and reports blood inventory issues to section lead.Monitors supply inventory, reagents and controls, allowing sufficient lead time to ensure supplies are on hand, and place orders, as required. Store reagents IAW manufacturer's directions and ensure proper disposal of regents.Performs both routine and complex, non-routine support functions within the Department of Pathology, including the accumulation and disposition of medical waste, the monitoring of temperatures (for instruments, storage areas, rooms), the routine performance of proficiency testing (blind) samples as a component of the external monitoring process, and ensures compliance with routine safety standards.Conducts the training for new employees, students and residents in routine functions.Delivering test results to physicians, researchers or patients.Collecting and studying blood samples to determine morphology.Ensure compliance with standard of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment MTF and IAW JC guidelines. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.Complete orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with unit guidelines.When assigned, will serve and participate in committees, functions and other meetings. Provide relevant and timely information and assists with decision- making and process improvement.Will report to the Director of the Armed Services Blood Bank Center (ASBBC).Serve as preceptor for Medical Laboratory Technician preceptorship programs.As required, participate in customer service initiatives and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
