Operator in Training - Wastewater Facility

Position Purpose: Performs a variety of unskilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of a water/wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift; does related work as required; has no supervisory capacity.Learns and gains skills in a variety of equipment maintenance, servicing, and operating tasks.Performs routine maintenance and servicing work in the water/wastewater treatment plant.Understands and carries out oral and written directions.Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Operates, repairs, and maintains the water/wastewater treatment plant's facilities.Performs routine laboratory tests.Diagnose operating problems and perform necessary corrective action during work shift.Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent.Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels.Observes and reports abnormalities to supervisor.Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control, starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes.Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings.Takes samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses.Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties.Does related work as required.Work Environment:Must be able to work in all types of weather.
